 INTRODUCTIONÂ

The Ladies’ Ski Club Limited has established the BSR Committee. The BSR Committee has responsibility for the organisation and administration of the British Schoolgirls’ Races. The rules for the British Schoolgirls’ Races are based on the Ski Competition Rules of the International Ski Federation and the British Competition Rules. The BSR Committee will consider annually whether Rules of the International Ski Federation or other rules should be included in the rules of the competition and will make appropriate recommendations for amendments to these rules for approval by the Directors of the Ladies’ Ski Club Limited.Â

RacesÂ

1. The BSR will consist of a Giant Slalom, a Slalom and a Parallel Slalom. The technical details for each discipline, and those concerning racing in general, may be found in the International Competition Rules (ICR), copies of which may be obtained from GB Snowsports (GBSki,) or downloaded from www.fis-ski.com. Where appropriate the jury will refer to the BCR, in which special regulations are in place for British Run competitions.Â
Â
2. The ROC has the right to change or cancel the programme in the event of Force Majeure or where the conditions do not allow a safe competition to be run. No refunds will be issued if the competition cannot be completed on account of weather, safety grounds or unsportsmanlike behaviour.Â
Â
EligibilityÂ

3. All girls of Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, Under 18 and Under 21 categories (based on year of birth) in accordance with the ICR who attend a UK based school on a full-time basis are eligible to compete. Girls who spend time abroad during the winter term are also allowed to compete if they are enrolled in their UK school for the whole year.Â
British pupils (ie girls holding a current British passport) at a non-UK based school may also compete.Â
a) U10 & U12 athletes are entered as individuals and may not be part of the school team. They cannot contribute to their overall school ranking, being only eligible to compete in individual parallel and Giant Slalom.Â
Â
4. Team competitors of non-British nationality (ie not holding a British Passport) who are full time pupils at participating UK based schools are eligible to compete in such school team(s) and for the BSR team trophies and prizes.Â
Â
5. Girls younger than the Under 10 category (in accordance with the ICR- i.e. under 8 on the 1st January) are not permitted to take any part in the BSR nor to act as forerunners or Hors Concours participants. Forerunners may be nominated at the team captains’ meeting or by emailing the ROC in advance at snow@britishschoolgirlsraces.co.ukÂ
Â
6. Girls who have been BASS or BARTS registered, will not be eligible to compete for non-registered prizes. Alongside this the first thirty finishers in each discipline will not be eligible for the non-registered prizes. We will recognise non-registered skiers who place inside the top 30 with an honourable mention. This wouldn’t affect prize allocations but would still celebrate their achievement.Â
Â
TeamsÂ

7. Any three competitors attending the SAME school may be nominated to compete as a team, these competitors must be in U14 or above age group.Â
Â
a) U10 & U12s are not eligible to contribute to the school results. They cannot act as reserves for racers in categories above their age.Â
Â
b) A school may initially enter more than three girls to facilitate team trials but the Team Captains are responsible for ensuring that the Race Secretary is informed of the names of the nominated team members and their order no later than by 17.00 on Saturday for ALL events. Please ensure you enter all names of girls travelling to Flaine. After this deadline, changes will be only be allowed on medical grounds and if approved by the Race Jury.Â

c) Each team for the Giant Slalom and Slalom must consist of the same competitors, but the running order may be changed for each discipline.Â

d) The parallel team may be made up of different competitors and include reserves provided that they were entered on the initial team form.Â

e) Reserves, previously nominated, will be allowed to replace a racer who has been injured during the event and has been declared ‘unfit to race’ by a local doctor, the BSR doctor or the race jury. Should entry levels allow it and the jury deems it safe to do so reserves will be allowed to compete at the end of the race as part of the competition.Â

f) If the weather conditions do not allow time for the full parallel slalom to be run, the OC reserves the right to run only the A teams and to run the B teams on a separate occasion where possible. If it is not possible to run any teams on Sunday, then the OC reserves the right to run A teams only.Â

g) Should the above occur, the OC will insist on original nominations of Team A/B stand.Â
Â
Â
8. Number of Teams entered, schools may enter a max of 2 teams in the first round of entries, on a first come first serve basis.
a) Each school is allowed two guaranteed team entries into the eventÂ
b) Each school may submit an additional 2 teams that are classed as non-guaranteed entries.Â
c) Non-guaranteed entries are likely to be accepted for the event but in the interest of fairness these will be confirmed following the entry closing date.Â
Â
Â
9. The OC has the right to restrict the number of teams in any race when either weather, light hours or snow conditions make such restrictions necessary. In such events ‘A’ teams will take priority over ‘B and below’ teams. Teams may not mix and match their entries at this time.Â
Â
10. Due to high demand from Schools, entries from Clubs will no longer be accepted.Â
Â
RegistrationÂ

11. Each Team Captain/School Representative must register their final team, via email or at the Race Office by 17.00 on Saturday.Â
Â
12. An Athlete’s Declaration (which may be downloaded from www.britishschoolgirlsraces.co.uk) must be completed by any competitor who is not registered with BASS for snow or with BARTS for artificial. These forms must be submitted electronically by 10th January to snow@britishschoolgirlsraces.co.uk.Â
Â
The DrawÂ

13. The draw will be held no later than 16.00 on the day before the first race to determine the start order for the race. Each discipline will have a separate draw. The Organising Committee will make the draw electronically, supervised by the TD, and announce the running order at the Team Captains meeting. This will be published on social media, via whatsapp to the captains group and on the website.Â

a) Teams will be drawn in two separate groups, with each ‘A’ team drawn in the first group and ‘B’ teams drawn in the second group. This will then be continued for subsequent team categories if there are any. Number 1 racers in the first group will run in team drawn order, they will be followed by number 2s and then number 3s in the same order. The ‘B’ group will then run in the drawn order in the same manner, following the first group.Â

b) For the second run of both the Giant Slalom and the Slalom, the start order of racers within each group will be reversed i.e in the ‘A’ team group number 1 racers will reverse order, then number 2 racers will reverse order and finally number 3 racers will reverse order. The ‘B’ team group will reverse their order of run in the same way.Â

c) The parallel will be drawn at random across A teams for the Sunday competition. There will be a separate draw for the remainder of the teams, also drawn at random across all remaining teams.Â
Â
DisqualificationsÂ

14. A list of disqualifications will be announced and posted in the finish area by the Jury after each run of a race. Protests against disqualification must be lodged, in accordance with the ICR, within 15 minutes of the posting time. If you miss this protest time, no further protests will be taken. The Jury’s decision is final.Â
Â
15. The OC reserves the right to disqualify athletes if their appointed doctor reports they are medically unfit to compete.Â
Â
16. Where a team is deemed to act in an unsportsmanlike way, adverse to the values of the event and ski racing the OC and Jury reserve the right to disqualify the individual or team.Â
Â
InsuranceÂ

17. All competitors and forerunners must have adequate insurance covering ski racing.Â
The responsibility for insuring each competitor rests with the competitor or their legal guardian.Â
Â
18. Personal Liability is the responsibility of the competitor. The organisers shall take out Liability Insurance for all members of the Committee and those involved in the running of the races.Â
Â
SafetyÂ
Â
19. Competitors must make sure that their equipment is adequate for the discipline at hand and fullyÂ
functional. The OC strongly recommends Giant Slalom skis are used for the GS event and SlalomÂ
skis are used for both slalom and parallel slalom events. Sunglasses are specifically forbidden whilstÂ
racing. As this is not a ’National Race’ competitors do not need to adhere to the ICR/FIS Ski Length rules.Â
Â
20. Under FIS and ICR rules it is mandatory for all competitors and forerunners to wear a helmet in all events including the parallel slalom. Course inspection is included as it is an integral part of the race. Helmets must conform to alpine competition standards. Giant Slalom helmets can be worn for Slalom, but Slalom helmets are not allowed in Giant Slalom.Â
Â
21. Helmets with stickers, other than those of the manufacturer, or camera mounts will not be allowed. Up to date rules concerning helmets can be found on the BSR website and these will be strictly enforced.Â
Â
22. Competitors must wear ski clothes or cat suits suitable for ski racing. Racing in leggings or non-regulation cat suits is dangerous and will not be allowed. No cameras or Gopros can be worn without the TD’s prior consent. No follow cams are allowed without the OC and TDs prior consent.Â
Â
23. Girls found behaving in an inappropriate or unsafe manner towards BSR organisers or other racers may be subject to disqualification by the Jury. Disregard of instructions from OC can also result in disqualification.Â
Â
24. The Jury reserves the right to make a judgement call on safety grounds to amend, cancel orÂ
change the event at short notice.Â
Â
Calculation of Results U14,U16, U18, U21Â
Â
25. Individual results: Individual results will be calculated from the competitor's race points. If two or more competitors finish in exactly the same time, the competitor with the higher start number will be listed first on the results sheet.Â
Â
26. Team results: Team results will be calculated by totalling the race points of the best two individual results of the three team members.Â
Â
27. Combination results: Combination results will be calculated by combining race points from both the Giant Slalom and the Slalom. The team/individual with the least points total from both races is the winner. In the event of a tie the team/individual with the least points in the Giant Slalom will be deemed the winner.Â
Â
a) Non-Registered Team AwardÂ
b) Any team with two unregistered racers, outside the top 30 finishers on race day, is eligible for the Best Non-Registered Team.Â
c) Non-Registered Combined Race Results SL&GSÂ
d) Racers eligible for this category will be unregistered and fall outside the top 30 finishers on BOTH the GS and SL races.Â
Â
Note: under 14’s have two ‘one run’ races which are both considered for the total points, whereas under 16’s, 18’s and 21’s have a one race with two runs. If anyone does not complete the first run their points for the second run will not be counted towards final results.Â
Â
Calculation of Results U10 & U12Â

25. Individual resultsÂ
a) The parallel, The competition shall be conducted using a straight knockout format. Athletes will compete in parallel races, with the winner of each race advancing to the next round. This process will continue until a final race determines the overall winner.Â
b) The Giant Slalom, each competitor may complete up to three (3) runs within the day, subject to course and time availability. The competitor’s best single run time will count towards the final result.Â
Â
26. Team results: in 2026 there will be no awards for Team results in u10 & U12 age groups.Â
Â
27. Combination resultsÂ
In 2026 there will be no combination results in U10 & U12 age groups as we trial the launch of the age groups in the competition.Â

28. Registered and non registered racersÂ
As U10 & U12 do not have seed points we are unable to calculate this category therefore all races will be in an age group category only.Â
Â
Race Organising Committee and OfficialsÂ

28. The BSR Committee will appoint the ROC to run the races at the venue agreed by the BSR Committee each year. The members of the ROC shall be appointed at times appropriate for the efficient conduct of the BSR.Â

29. The BSR committee will include:Â
a) Chief of ChampionshipsÂ
b) ‘On snow’ co-ordinator (usually the Chief of Race)Â
c) Safeguarding OfficerÂ
d) BSR TreasurerÂ
e) President of LSCÂ
f) PR-Sponsorship Co-ordinatorÂ
Two or more of these positions can be held by the same personÂ

30. The ROC will include:Â
a) Chief of ChampionshipsÂ
b) ‘On Snow’ Co-ordinatorÂ
c) Race SecretaryÂ
d) PR-Sponsorship co-ordinatorÂ
Â
31. The ROC will co-opt further persons as necessary for the running of the races, including Chief of Race, Chief of Course, Chief Gate Judge and Chief of Timing & Calculations.Â
Â
32. The duties of all members of the ROC are to be within the spirit of the FIS rules but at the discretion of the ROC.Â
Â
33. For every team submitted, the school will be expected to provide at least one gatekeeper per team submitted for the event. Non-Compliance with this Rule may compromise the team’s entry and result in disqualification.Â
The JuryÂ
Â
34. The Jury is to be constituted in accordance with the ICR as follows:Â
a) The Technical Delegate (appointed by the GBSki TD forum)Â
b) The Chief of RaceÂ
c) The Referee.Â
Â
35. The duties of all members of the Jury are to be in the spirit of the current FIS ruleÂ
Â
Trophies and PrizesÂ

36. The trophies and prizes that are competed for annually are shown with the entry information.Â
Â
37. Winners of individual and Team trophies are to ensure the safe return of the trophies, cleaned and appropriately engraved, to the Race Office before the Team Captains Meeting ie on Saturday before the first race.Â
Â
38. In the event of loss or damage of a trophy the Chief of Championships or Race Secretary is to be informed at least one month before the event. The Trophy must be repaired or replaced by one of similar value by the Winner.Â
Â
Prize GivingÂ

39. The prize giving ceremony is an integral part of the Championships and as such, all competitors, and particularly prize winners, are expected to be present.Â
By entering a team the school has agreed to abide by this rule and non-compliance may compromise a future entry and disqualification from the Competition.Â
Â
RESERVES:Â
We are aware that more and more schools are bringing reserves and picking their teams once in resort. Our rules regarding reserves have changed over the years and now they can be part of the parallel slalom team and can replace a skier if she has been badly injured or certified unfit to race.Â
In 2026 time permitting, we are planning to allow all reserves to do one run of slalom on Tuesday after the second official run. This would only be if there was no parallel scheduled on that day and would depend on the condition of the piste and the agreement of the TD.Â
